Carolyn Maylor-McClendon, M.S., D.P.Th
was the Warden of a high-security jail for pre-trial and sentenced male offenders. She started in the Connecticut Department of Correction in November 2001 as a Correctional Counselor Trainee in Addiction Services. Warden McClendon worked at a number of prisons providing case management for offenders and was promoted to Correctional Counselor Supervisor (CCS) in the Tactical Operations Unit in 2010. She would go on to hold the position of CCS of Classification, Programs/Treatment, Central Records/Interstate Compact, and Unit Manager. Before her promotion, she held the position of Deputy Warden of Programs and Treatment at a medium-security institution.
Warden Maylor-McClendon is a proud alum of Springfield Technical Community College, where she received an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. Capitalizing on the partnership between STCC and Westfield State College, Carolyn continued her education endeavors by receiving a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Criminal Justice. An avid student and dedicated minister in her church, Carolyn furthered her education and received a Doctorate of Practical Theology in 2017. Dr. Maylor-McClendon has facilitated trainings and spoken at conferences internationally. She serves on the Foundation Board of Directors for Springfield Technical Community College and is a member of the North American Association of Wardens and Superintendents.
She strives to be a role model to her two daughters. She is a firm believer in the “3 feet” philosophy, meaning if she can have a positive impact on the space within her arms’ reach, she has done her part to make the world a better place. She is an avid traveler, voracious reader, and exercise enthusiast.
